The ideal candidate for our Director of Commercial Credit position will be primarily responsible for credit analysts and processors for Heartland's commercial loan department and oversight of the commercial portfolio.

SCHEDULE

Office hours - Monday- Friday.

LOCATION

Support Center, located at 4000 N. Monroe in Hutchinson, KS

ABOUT THIS POSITION

The role is responsible for ensuring that the credit pipelines (both new and existing) are managed efficiently and effectively (within agreed upon metrics) to provide members and Commercial Lenders with a streamlined loan process. In addition this person will be responsible for:

  • Manages the credit union's commercial loan portfolio utilizing performance and risk metrics, covenant compliance and other resources.
  • Manages commercial credit/underwriting and allocates resources effectively. Ensures that commercial loan requests (new, renewals, annual reviews) are underwritten accurately and in a timely fashion.
  • Monitors the queue for incoming MBL/Commercial loan applications.
  • Conducts a thorough, in-depth analysis of new commercial credit requests, credit change requests, renewals and annual relationship reviews.
  • Creates, calculates and reviews Global Cash Flows, reviews and creates Risk Rating Analysis, completes MBL loan reviews as required, completes additional MBL tasks as required.
  • Completes loan credit analysis and memorandums to be submitted to loan committee for approval with recommendations and applicable documentation.
  • Attends member meetings when appropriate to obtain better understanding of the nature of the business and purpose of loan request.
  • Works with the analysts to solve complex credit issues and ensure that the final work product meets the quality and timing expected by the credit unions service level standards.
  • After reviewing loan application package, makes recommendations to front-line staff regarding cross-sell opportunities.
  • Assists in the review and interpretation of new pending laws and regulations that potentially affect the Credit Union's business practices.
  • Chairs the credit loan committee and is an active participant in management of committee relative to overall credit risk assessments and analyses.
  • Provides leadership to staff through hiring, training, coaching and development.
  • Performs all other duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Proactively supports and advances HCU's brand and culture.

QUALIFICATIONS


EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field preferred; or equivalent experience

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum five years related experience in commercial underwriting and analysis in both CRE and C&I.
  • Proven experience managing a pipeline and workflows.
  • Previous team lead/supervisor experience preferred.
  • Previous leadership experience is helpful.

SKILLS:

  • Able to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects
  • Ability to multitask and deliver accurate results within established service level timeframes
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Well organized and attentive to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and enforce policies and procedures.
  • Able to operate related computer applications and PC.
  • Ability to coach, mentor, develop and lead a team of credit analysts
  • Proficient in MS Office including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Flexible and open to change.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid driver's license.
  • Requires National Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS) registration under the SAFE Act of 2008. Will be subject to the required registration process, which includes fingerprinting and a criminal background screening. Fees are paid for by Heartland Credit Union.
  • Pass criminal background check, drug screen, credit check and past employment and education verification.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Required to sit, stand, and walk. Standing for extended periods of time. Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally.
